Fresh cows are uniquely fragile. While still dealing with the stress of calving, these cows are on a steep climb toward peak milk production. These combined factors make them a high health risk that deserves special treatment.

Failure to recognize the unique needs of these cows can result in a crash that, at best, turns a high potential lactation into a lackluster performance. Losses can be permanent. Records show that 30 percent of all involuntary culling occurs during the first 60 days post calving.

The Pfizer Fresh Cow Program is designed to help you keep fresh cows healthy, producing high quality milk and with minimal milk discard. The key elements include good nutrition, careful monitoring, proper diagnosis, early intervention and fast, effective treatment. The payoffs include reduced post-calving infections, fewer secondary diseases like ketosis (milk fever) and health conditions such as displaced abomasum (DA), fewer culls, lower veterinary drug costs, increased milk production, improved reproduction and increased returns.

100-DAY CONTRACT

The 100-DAY CONTRACT® covers all aspects of the critical period from 30 days before freshening to 70 days after freshening, with the goal of optimizing early pregnancies through proper nutrition and disease management. Carefully researched protocols for both dry and lactating cows lead to healthier animals and significantly higher pregnancy rates.

Ongoing measurement and evaluation are what really set the 100-DAY CONTRACT program apart from other dairy management systems. By benchmarking herd performance, you can monitor successes and failures and make adjustments along the way.

Check out each section of the 100-DAY CONTRACT to discover more details about this revolutionary approach to dairy wellness. These sections include suggested goals for each measurement criterion, along with critical control points (CCPs)—"red flags" to tell you when to take corrective action in your herd. When these action points are reached, it's time to sit down with your management team and reevaluate procedures.
